Mr. Laney D. Poynter, age 79 of Berea, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at his home. He was born at Boone, Ky. on February 20, 1934, son of the late Laney Wren and Agnes Lambert Poynter. He retired from Parker Seal where he was a maintenance mechanic for 41 years and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
On July 21, 1956 he was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Betty Jean McCracken Poynter, who survives him and from that union 5 children were born, Greg Poynter, Kelly (Tony) Boston, Jeff (Vonda) Poynter, Jennifer Sexton, Barry Poynter. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Cory, Ethan and Lindsey Boston, Jonathan, Emma and Ryan Poynter, Aaron, Grant, Elijah and Stella Sexton; 3 brothers, Russell, George and David Poynter; a cousin raised as a brother, Clay Osborne; as well as numerous relatives, friends and neighbors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his precious granddaughter, Amanda Poynter; and 5 brothers, Warren, Marion, Bob, Delbert and Donald Poynter.
Funeral Service 2:00 PM, Monday, February 10, 2014 at Reppert Funeral Home with Bro. Vaughn Rasor officiating. Burial will follow in Berea Cemetery. Visitation 6:00 - 9:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be: Greg Poynter, Jeff Poynter, Barry Poynter, Larry Todd, Robbie Todd and Ron Devere. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jerry Abrams, Frankie Anderkin, Virgil Ray Hatton, Roy Gene Todd, and Forester VanWinkle.
