Mrs. Kate Birt, widow of J. M. Birt, died at 6:45 o'clock Friday morning at the residence of her granddaughter, Mrs. May Petro, 405 South Broadway. She was seventy-seven years old. Her death was due to dropsical trouble. Mrs. Birt had been in poor health for several years. About four years ago she fell and broke her hip and, though she recovered, her health was never as good as before the accident.
Mrs. Birt was born in Michigan City, Indiana. She had lived in Decatur for thirty years or more and was well known. She was a member of the Methodist church and had many friends. Her home was at 1704 East Wood street.
Mrs. Birt is survived by two sons, James A. Birt and Arthur Birt, both of Decatur. She also leaves the following grand-children: Mrs. May Petro of Decatur, Mrs. Bramer of Whiting, Indiana, C. A. La Bounty, Bertie La Bounty, John Birt, J. A. Birt, Mrs. Orville Hoendorf, and Mrs. Arthur Deibert, all of Decatur. The body was removed to the Moran undertaking establishment and prepared for burial and later taken to the home 1704 East Wood street.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at St. Paul's Methodist church. The services will be conducted by Rev. C. R. Booth. The interment will be in the Greenwood [Brush College] cemetery beside the body of her husband.

Many old friends attended the services. There were many beautiful floral tributes in charge of Mrs. E. M. Sewell, Mrs Amos Gladfelter, Mrs Richtenberger, Mrs. Walton and Mrs C. Boehm.
