MANUELA HERNANDEZ

Rosary for Manuela Mendez Hernandez, 75, 1505 W. Tansil St., is to be recited at 7 p.m. today at San Jose Catholic Church. She died Tuesday at her home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Miguel Briseno officiating.

Burial will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery under the direction of West Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Gabriel Carrasco, Oscar Colorado, Julian Mendez Jr., Junior Lujan, Robert Holguin and Harvey Mendez.

She was born May 15, 1915, at El Midlato, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was educated in Mexico and moved to Carlsbad in the late 1940s.

Mrs. Hernandez worked as a housekeeper for various Carlsbad motels before moving to Hobbs in 1965 to work as a waitress. She returned to Carlsbad on Sept. 27.

She was a member of the San Jose Catholic Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Adela Mendez, Silver City; one brother, Julian Mendez, Carlsbad; and four sisters, Leandra Vela and Frances Dallas, both of Carlsbad, Clara Acosta, Loving, and Chita Mendez of Lovington.
