MENDEZ

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in the West Funeral Home chapel for Jose Angel V. Mendez, 78, of Carlsbad. He died in an El Paso, Texas hospital Thursday.

Mass will be said at 3 p.m. Saturday at San Jose Mission with the Rev. Noel Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David, Rudy, Manuel, Joe, Jimmy and Lupe Mendez.

Born in Mulato, Mexico, he came to the U.S. as a small child. He worked as custodian for the Carlsbad Municipal Schools until his retirement.

He is survived by six sons, Rudy and James Mendez, Carlsbad, Joe Mendez Jr., Germany, David Mendez, Las Cruces, N.M., Lupe Mendez, Roswell, N.M., and Manuel Mendez, Hobbs, N.M.; three daughters, Vickie Rodriquez, Carlsbad, Helen Galindo, El Paso and Lucy Fierro, Lawton, Okla.; one brother, Julian Mendez, Carlsbad; five daughters, Clara Acosta, Loving, Manuela Hernandez, Hobbs, Frances Dallas, and Leandra Vella, both of Carlsbad, and Anastacia Mendez, Lovington, 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
