Merrill E Owen, 66, of Maquon died at 10:35 p.m. Sunday at St Mary's Hospital, Galesburg. Born Sept 7, 1919, near Maquon to Philip G and Sadie Hayes Owen, he married Alice Combs Dec 31, 1943, in Galesburg. A resident of this area all his life, he farmed 35 years before retiring in 1981. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Americal Division in the South Pacific. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Donald D Owen of rural Galesburg and Robert R Owen of rural Maquon; one daughter, Mrs Kristy Westbay of rural Knoxville; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Rollin Owen of Bartonville and Gerald Owen of Maquon; and two sisters, Mrs Leona Goedeke of Yates City and Mrs Phyllis Lybarger of Galesburg. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Maquon United Methodist Church, the Rev Norman Mendell officiating. Burial will be in Maquon Cemetery. Root Funeral Home is in charge of arrangement. Friends may call at the family residence this afternoon and evening. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
