Maquon, IL - Gerald Dean Owen, 82, of 618 S. Main St. died at 5:35 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at his home.

Born Dec. 18, 1921, in Maquon to Phillip and Sadie Haynes Owen, he married Nellie Viola Combs on Sept. 2, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Linda (and Lyman) Walter of Maquon and Wanda (and John) Erwin of Knoxville; one sister, Phyllis (and Raymond) Lybarger of Avon; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

A member of the former Maquon American Legion, he was a World War II Army veteran, serving from March 1945 to August 1946.

He was a self-employed painter and wallpaper hanger. He also worked for Curtis Breeding Services in Cary.

Cremation will be accorded. Burial of ashes will be in Maquon Cemetery at a later date.
