Leona M Goedeke, 81, Yates City Route .., died at 3 p.m. Friday (April 12, 1996) at the home of her son, Merrill Goedeke, near Maquon. She was born Aug 12, 1914, in Elba Township, Knox county, the daughter of Phillip G and Sadie M Haynes Owen. She married Albert T Goedeke on Feb 8, 1936, in Galesburg. He died March 17, 1992. Surviving are two sons, Merrill Goedeke and Lyle Goedeke, both of Maquon; two brothers, Rollin Owen, Bartonville, and Gerald Owen, Maquon; one sister, Phyllis Lybarger, Galesburg, three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother. She was reared and educated in Haw Creek Township, Knox County. A homemaker, she farmed with her husband in the Maquon area until retiring in 1977. She was a member of Maquon United Methodist Church, Spoon Sisters, Steady Stitches and Hill Top Community Club. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, with the Rev Benny Stare officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maquon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Elba-Salem Fire Department, Maquon Fire Department and Community Hospices of America.
