Her father had been recruited in County Derry by the British Army in 1836 to fight in the Upper Canada Rebellion. He was awarded 100 acres of land in Spencerville for his service which he later sold to family members who immigrated in 1847.
The family came to Illinois in 1866 where Jane's youngest sibling was born, then moved on to Nebraska and Colorado.
Jane married Irishman Michael Welch in Illinois where their daughter Jessie was born in 1867. Sadly Michael died about 1870 and Jane returned to her family.
On 4 July 1873 she married John Abram Huff in Dodge County, Nebraska, where they raised 10 children of their own before moving to Kansas. After the death of John, Jane and daughters Inez and Edith joined son William in New Mexico where another daughter Rachel also lived.
We are grateful to Jane's great-granddaughter who passed on much of the family history recorded by Jane in the Family Bible, and to a great-granddaughter of Dr. William Huff who provided additional details.
Other children include:
Rachel Heaton Huff Bingaman 1877 – 1934
Lydia Ethel Huff 1879 – 1880
(buried in Nebraska)
