James was awarded 100 acres in Spencerville, Ontario, for his service with the British Army. All of his children save the youngest were born there. In 1847 he shared the acreage with his brother John who immigrated that year with his family.
James appears to have been a bit of a wanderer, moving the family from Ontario to Illinois and Nebraska before finally settling in Colorado.
Nellie and carpenter Andrew Watson likely met in Nebraska where they spent most of their married life, raising seven children.
Additional children include:
Lawrence Noel Watson 1888 –
Unknown Watson 1895 – 1895
Reginald A. Watson 1903 –
