High Point - Mrs. Bernice Ijames Wood, 81, formerly of Northpoint Estates, died June 24, 2000, at Westwood Health & Rehabilitation Center after five months of declining health.
She was born April 2, 1919, in High Point, a daughter of Berry and Minnie Myers Ijames. She was a lifelong resident of High Point and a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ideal Sunday School Class. She retired as secretary-treasure from Curt Manufacturing and was a member of the Musical Arts Club. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. On May 14, 1938, she married Curtis William Wood, who preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1986.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Glenda) McNeil of Shadow Valley Road and Mrs. Robert (Lynn) Kirk of Oakview Road; a son, Dr. Curtis William Wood Jr. of Cullowhee; six grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Evia High of Archdale; and a brother, Athel Ijames of Graystone Place, Thomasville.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Steve and Glenda McNeil.
Pallbearers will be David High, Daniel High, Sean High, Aaron Michael Kirk, Matthew Glenn McNeil and Steven Andrew McNeil.
