Malinda was the daughter of Michael and Nancy (Clark) Jones and was most likely born around 1824 on the family farm located in Black Township, Posey County, Indiana. Michael's farm was north of the town of Mount Vernon, the future county seat, near Farmersville. She had five brothers and sisters: Phyllis, Sarah, Joel, Samuel and Mary. She was the youngest child in the family. Malinda spent her entire life on her parents' or husband's farms in Black Township. On November 13, 1856 at the age of thirty-two she married Andrew "Andy" McFadin in Posey County. Andrew came from a long line of McFadins, early pioneers that established farms in southwestern Territory of Indiana in the early 1800s. The town of Mount Vernon was first called "McFadins Bluff." However, just how Andrew was related to the founding fathers of Posey County is unclear. Malinda and Andrew had one child: Charles, who was born around 1858. The U S Census of 1860 records that Andrew was farming in Black Township, was thirty-four years of age and was born in Indiana. Living at home included his wife Malinda (35), son Charles (2) and Arilla Mills (13) who was not identified as to the relationship of the McFadin family. On November 17, 1861 Andrew married Mary A. Cully, so it is assumed that Malinda died between 1860 and November of 1861. By 1870 Andrew was still farming in Black Township, and the census listed Mary as his wife. In addition to Charles, there were five more children listed: Enoch (7), Evie (6), Andrew (4), George (3) and Joseph (1). Andrew passed away in Black Township, Posey County on September 21, 1897. It has not been determined the exact date of death and where Malinda is interred, but most likely it is a cemetery located in Posey County where so many other members of the Jones clan are buried.
