From Holland St. John - "Michael was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Middleton) Jones and was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky, most likely around 1787-88. Michael married Nancy Clark on 5 September, 1805 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. He moved to Black Township, Posey County, Indiana with his wife and parents. Members of the Jones family settled and established farms in the rich soil north of the present city of Mount Vernon around 1807 when Indiana was still a territory. They raised six children: Phyllis, Sarah, Joel, Samuel, Mary and Malinda. One source suggests a seventh child named Thomas. However, this Thomas was most likely a grandson (a son of Samuel and Malinda Nelson Jones). Very little is known about Michael. According to the 1830 U S Census he had established a farm in Black Township and was from 40 to 50 years of age. His will, which was made September 13, 1846, reveals some facts about the family, however. His two brothers, Joel Jones and Wilson Jones, served as executors and the will included three of his children still living. His daughters Phyllis, Mary and Sarah had evidentally died before Michael's will was made. Mentioned in the will were the three daughers of Phyllis: Sally Ann, Nancy and Mary Burlison. Phillis had married John Burlison. Also mentioned were Hannah Ann, Aaron, Benoni and Michael Gill, children of his daughter Sarah and her husband Joseph Gill. The will was probated October 31, 1846 so it is assumed Michael died between September and October 31, 1846. His son Joel married Cara McCoy on May 5, 1842; his son Samuel, who was born in 1815 and died April 4, 1872, married Malinda Clark. One source stated that they had fourteen children. His daughter Malinda was born about 1824, married Andrew McFadin and died around 1861. It has not been determined exactly when or where Michael died and was buried, but family tradition places his interment in Black Township near the location of the original grounds where the Primative Bethal Baptist Church stood near Farmersville. His father, the Reverend Samuel Jones, had directed its building early in the 1800s. The Templeton Cemetery is now located where the original church once stood and a number of Joneses are buried here."
