James Edward "Pop" Banning, 75, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, in Wichita.
He was born June 15, 1936, in Longton, to Lonzo Abram and Veora Allison Jackson Banning. He graduated from Longton High School in 1954.

On Aug. 25, 1961, he married Wanda Lea Shanks in Longton. She died July 22, 2007. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandson; a sister, Jean Weber; and two brothers, Lowell and Delbert.

A resident of the Johnson City area since 1963, moving into Johnson City in 1975, Mr. Banning pulled tanks and hauled fertilizer for Skyland Grain.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Banning of Ulysses, and Robert "Pete" Banning of Johnson City; three daughters, Lorri Ann Leatherman of Liberal, and Janet Sheppard and Nancy Roberts, both of Syracuse; two brothers, Cecil Banning of Hesston, and Martin "Bud" Banning of Tyrone, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at Faith Baptist Church in Johnson City. Burial was at Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson City.
