Martha Ella Wright Howell Snethen
Martha Ella Wright was the third daughter, sixth child of nine children born to Rev. Isaac Marvin Wright and Bessie Lynn Wright. Bessie Wright died on Feb 2, 1914, about a month following the birth of their youngest, infant Elma Bessie Wright.
Rev. Isaac "Marvin' Wright remarried a few years later to a school teacher, Martha Augusta Palmore, who was from Mississippi. They had seven children. Living and working across west Texas through the years on farms and ranches and preaching wherever Marvin could, life was not easy for them. There were rarely enough finances to meet the needs of their growing family. They eventually settled in Lipan, Hood County, Texas. Marvin Wright, a good man who loved God and loved his family, died in 1939. Times were even tougher for Martha Augusta Wright, a young widow with several children. As the four boys became old enough they enlisted in the military and sent money home to Mother to help her with the younger children.
Martha grew up and married Vernon Howell. They became the parents of four children: J. W. Howell, Denman Howell, Donald Howell, and Betty Howell. Vernon Howell passed away at age 41, September 27, 1938, in Newcastle, Young County, Texas.
Martha later married Carl Gordon Snethen. Carl Snethen: born December 13, 1908 - died December 16, 1970. At rest in Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, Houston, Harris County, Texas.
Martha Wright Snethen died in 1963. She was laid to rest in Brookside Cemetery, Houston, Harris County, Texas. [Thanks to Searchers of our Past for info on infant J. W. Howell and Carl Gordon Snethen].
