In Loving Memory

Two Wright brothers Rev. Isaac "Marvin" Wright and Francis "Dick" Wright rode from the family farm in Burke, Trinity County, Texas, to visit their Wright relatives in Sabine County and San Augustine County. Three of their Uncles families lived there.

They lived with their widowed mother Martha Ellen (Henderson) Wright, having lost their father Rev. Isaac Edward Wright at 36 years of age in 1873 when they were young boys. Their father's brother Rev. Robert Dickerson Wright had died in 1889 but his widow Aunt "Fannie" (Henderson) Wright lived in Sabine County with her children.

Rev. Isaac Edward Wright's brother Rev. John Wesley Wright died in 1854. His widow Cynthia "Elvira" remarried and had two children with Rev. Robert Wright. Elvira and infant Robert Govy Wright both died Mar 4,1888. Elvira's mother Mary Ann Jackson (Carter), widow of Govy Gary, and widow of William "Henry" Loggins, welcomed her five grandchildren to her home. She loved them. Mary Gary Loggins raised them to Christian values, be honest, and a work ethic.

Rev. Marvin Wright fell in love with 16 year old Bessie Lynn Wright and they married Jan 8, 1895. On December 26, 1895 Dick Wright eloped with 14 year old Cynthia Sarah Wright riding with him on the horse, heading back to Burke, Texas. Rev. Marvin Wright conducted their marriage ceremony. Grandma Mary Gary Loggins was upset with the two couples for about two years for marrying so young. By then Marvin and Bessie had their first baby and Grandma Mary Gary Loggins relented. There was harmony in the family again.

Marvin and Bessie were happy with their growing family. Rev. Marvin Wright preached and farmed their land to provide for them. Three of their children died from illness through the years which gave them great sorrow. Through good times and bad times they remained a loving Christian family. On December 17, 1913 Bessie Lynn gave birth to their ninth baby, Elma Bessie Wright. About six weeks later while hanging clothes outside on the line to dry Bessie started hemorrhaging and died soon after. Marvin Wright buried his beloved wife in Wood Cemetery, San Augustine County, Texas, where Uncles Rev. John Wesley and wife Elvira Wright, and Rev. Robert Dickerson Wright were at rest.

Rev. Marvin Wright spent the next few years caring for his children, working his farm and slowly recovering from the death of Bessie. About four years later he met a school teacher from Mississippi, Martha "Augusta" Palmore, who came to Texas to visit her brother. On September 22, 1918, Martha's birthday they married.

Marvin and Martha Augusta had a loving home together for his children, including 4 year old Elma Bessie. They later moved to Lipan, Hood County, Texas. They had seven children together. Marvin died in 1939 and Martha Augusta Wright in 1987. They share a double headstone in Evergreen Cemetery, Lipan, Hood County, Texas.
