Thomas Jefferson Wright, 78, of Providence died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at his home. He was born July 7, 1932, in Lipan, Texas, to the late Marvin Wright and Martha Augusta (Palmore) Wright. He was preceded in death by 17 sisters and brothers. He was a practicing Christian baptized in the muddy Arkansas River in Wichita, Kan. In the 1950s he was a member of the Army, serving as a tank driver in the Korean War. He was a patriot and loved his country dearly. He was an active member of the Providence VFW for many years. He moved to Kentucky in 1965 to work for H&R Block Tax Service in Owensboro. In the late 70s he moved to Providence where he opened his own tax business which he operated until 2009, when he retired after 45 years. He enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his companion of 25 years, Ocie Fugate and her five children. He is survived by four daughters, Sondra Kay McKenzie and her husband, David, of Pryor, Okla., Martha Ann Murphy and her husband Gary of Stanley, Debra Lynn Nichols and her husband Tim of Owensboro and Cheryl Yvonne Mills and her husband Eddie of Waverly; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Melton Funeral Home in Providence, with the Rev. Richard Sorrells officiating. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony's Hospice or the VFW.
