Hinesburg -- Charles C. Emmons, 79, a retired carpenter and lifelong resident of Hinesburg, died here Thursday afternoon after a short illness. He leaves 157 direct descendants. He was born in Hinesburg, Jan. 21, 1891, the son of Orin and Luella (White) Emmons. Mr. Emmons married Caroline Benedict, who died in 1968. He was employed at the Shelburne Museum for 20 years, retiring in 1966. He leaves seven sons, Earl, Ernest and Clinton of Hinesburg, Clifford of Lincoln, Herbert of Manchester, N.H. Melvin of Graniteville and Sgt. Leo of Ft. Belvoir, Va.; six daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Luella) Garvey, and Miss Viola Emmons of Hinesburg, Mrs. Delbert (Ila) Pecor of Richmond Mrs. Eldred (Mildred) French of Deacon, N.Y., Mrs. Chester (Sylvia) Bradford of Ferrisburg and Mrs. Mary Sears of Bomoseen, two brothers, Arthur of Hinesburg and Harold of Jonesville; a sister, Mrs. Bert (Ruby) Stoks of Berlin; 53 grandchildren, 91 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Church of Hinesburg with the Rev. James Osborne officiating. Friends may call at the Clifford Funeral Home in Hinesburg Friday 2-4 and 7-9. Interment will be in the family lot in the Hinesburg Cemetery. The Gifford Funeral Service of Richmond in charge of arrangements.
