Funeral services for Laura Luella Smith, 504 South Main were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Stahl chapel with the Rev. Adolph Weatherman, Assembly of God minister and the Rev. Willis Sullivan of Pawhuska officiating.
Interment in the Newkirk cemetery was under the direction of Stahl Funeral Home.
Pallbearers included Glen Lines, E. H. Thompson, Frank Robinson, J. R. Fisher, Harry Matlock and Jess Hutson.
Laura Luella Smith was born August 6, 1882 in Bentley, Missouri the daughter of Anna and Cain Haun and died March 31, 1961, at the Memorial hospital in Arkansas City, Kansas. She came with her parents to Kay County in 1898 and May 31, 1901 she was married to E.C. Rath in Alva. They homesteaded near Fairview and in 1903 moved to a farm near Braman. In 1931, she was married to Ben Smith in Newkirk and the couple have made their home here since then. She was a member of the Christian Church.
She is survived by six sons: James Arthur Rath, Arkansas City, Kans., Karl E. Rath, Vian, Oklahoma, Lee A. Rath, Wichita Falls, Texas, Edward E. Rath, Blackwell, Cecil E. Roth, Ponca City, and Jack A. Rath, Wichita, Kansas. Also two daughters: Mrs. Joseph (Margie) Ertman, Orange, California, and Mrs. Ralph (Etta) Breneman, Rocksville, Connecticut, one sister, Mrs. Emma Bannister, Clovis, California and 32 grandchildren
