Final rites for former area resident, Carl Rath, were held at 10a.m. Friday in Sallisaw.
Mr. Rath, 79, died Wednesday at his home in Vian after a two-year period of illness.
He was born Feb. 15, 1905, at Medford and grew up in the Blackwell-Braman area. He was a farm worker and was employed on numerous farms until moving to Vian in 1951. He also did farm work in that area until retiring.
Mr. Rath married Edna Root in Blackwell in 1930 and later married Crude Johnson at Vian in 1951.
He is survived by his wife, Crude, nine children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His children are Ruth Thompson, Ponca City; Mary Reed, Dallas, TX; Barbara Easley, Lahoma; Johnny Rath, Lucien;
Nancy Isreal, Marland; Elizabeth Grace, Blackwell; Dewey Rath, Ponca City; Joanie Oswald, Lahoma; and Carla Hammond of Michigan.
Also surviving are four brothers, Eddie Rath of Arizona and Arthur and Cecil Rath, both of Ponca City,Jack Rath of Kansas and two sisters, Margie Ertman of California and Etta May Breneman of Virginia.
Two grandchildren and his parents preceded him in death.
Rev. Harold Johnson officiated for the funeral and burial was in the Vian cemetery under direction of Agents Funeral Home.
