Millie Anna Elder was born June, 1846,in Harrison County, Indiana to William I. and Mary Jane (McKinley)Elder. On April 14, 1870, she married Elcania (Cain) Haun in Sugar Creek Township, Harrison, Missouri. The family traveled to Missouri, Kansas and the Oklahoma Territory by way of prairie wagon and covered wagon before Cain died. They lived side by side with the indians of the territory.
They had a total of 10 children of which 5 survived the hardships of traveling and diseases. Grandma Annie's 1st husband Elcania "Cain" Haun, died from swallowing a peach seed. He was buried in Tulsa with 2 of their children. (Unknown gravesites). Annie then married Sheridan McGowan, they resided in Calumet, Oklahoma for several years. When Annie was taken ill, Sheridan went to Colorado to live with Perry his son and family.He later died in Colorado, burial unknown. She had traveled by train to live with her daughter Laura when she developed pneumonia, she later died in the Arkansas City hospital.
Millie Anna (Elder) (Haun) McGowan is buried in the Newkirk Cemetery, next to her daughter Laura.
