Edward Tipton Sr. of Downingtown
Edward W. Tipton Sr., 83, of Downingtown, PA, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was the husband of Mabel R. Tipton with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.
Born in Pigeon Roost, NC, he was the son of the late Fieldon and Hester Lewis Tipton.
He was employed for 36 years with Lukens Steel Mill, where he was a supervisor for 120 Loading Bank until his retirement in 1975.
He was a member of Community Bible Church.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed working in his garden and loved his dogs.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Joan Salluzzo of Lancaster, PA, Barbara Keehn and Linda Tipton, both of Downingtown, PA, and Janet Viscichini of Chester Springs, PA; a son, Edward Tipton Jr. of Downingtown, PA; David Reilly of Downingtown; three brothers, Fieldon Tipton Jr., Isaac Tipton and Samuel Tipton, all of Downingtown, PA; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, John Tipton, Raymond Tipton, Henry Tipton, Erby Tipton, Luther Tipton, Richard Tipton, and Bruce Tipton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, PA.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
