Erby E. Tipton of Gap
Erby E. Tipton of Gap, PA, died Saturday morning at his residence after a long illness. He was the husband of Gertrude Ogden Tipton.
Born in Pigeon Roost, NC, he was a son of the late Fieldon and Hester Lewis Tipton.
He worked for more than 35 years as a foreman at the Sun Ship and Drydock Co. of Chester, Delaware County, PA, retiring in 1973.
He had been a resident of Gap, PA, the past seven years. Before that, he lived in Gradyville, Delaware County, PA.
He attended the Highland Baptist Church in Coatesville, PA.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Thomas F. of Liberty, PA, and Robert E. of Greenville, SC; a daughter, Louise T. White of Downingtown, PA; and six brothers, Henry of North Carolina, Edward of Thorndale, PA, and Isaac, Fieldon, Bruce, and Samuel, all of Downingtown, PA; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Donohue Funeral Home, 43 W. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, PA.
Interment will be in Hopewell Methodist Cemetery, Downingtown, PA.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday after 10 a.m.
