Luther R. Tipton, 53, of Glen Mills and formerly of Downingtown, died late Monday evening at the Elsmere Veterans Hospital in Elsmere, Del., after a short illness.
Husband of the late Jeanne M. Myers Tipton, he was born in Ramseytown, N.C., a son of the late Fieldon J. and Hester Lewis Tipton.
He attended Unionville schools and lived most of his life in Glen Mills and Downingtown.
During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps' photo reconnaissance division in Burma, Indochina. Following military service, he resided in Downingtown and moved to Glen Mills in 1961.
He was a truck driver for 34 years for the Chemical-Leaman Co. in Essington and a member of Teamsters Union Local 312.
He is survived by four daughters, Donna, wife of Guy G.E.P.M dela Riguadiere III of West Chester, Rita, wife of Jack Buxbaum of Washington, D.C., Joy, wife of Vincent Aurigemma of Westbury, Long Island, N.Y., Darlene, wife of David T. Ford of Chester; two grandchildren; and nine brothers, Raymond of West Grove, Henry of Glen Riddle, Edward of Downingtown, Erby of Coatesville, Isaac of Downingtown, Richard of Aston, Fieldon of Downingtown, Bruce of Downingtown, and Samuel of Honey Brook.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services from the Church of the Holy Trinity, West Chester, Pa. on Friday, September 21, 1979 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Northwood Cemetery, Downingtown, Pa. Friends may call at teh Joseph E. Boyd Funeral Home, 101 S. Church St., West Chester on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Memorial gifts may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 319 N. Pottstown Pike, Exton, Pa. 19341.
