Helen H. Serviss
RICHVILLE. — The funeral for Helen H. Serviss, 62, Calabash, N.C., formerly of Richville, was held Saturday, Sept. 29, 1995, at Brunswick Funeral Home, Seaside, N.C., with Richard Powell officiating. Memorial services are to be announced at a later date.
Mrs. Serviss died Wednesday, Sept. 27, at her home in Calabash, N.C.
Contributions may be made to any hospice organization.
Surviving are four daughters, Vickie Thayer and Mary Fowler, both of Calabash, N.C., Michelle Ferry, Canton, and Mae DeLisle, Windsor, Canada; three sons, Wayne, Brasie Corners, George Jr., Shallotte, N.C., and Jimmie, Gouverneur, 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
She was born April 1, 1933, in Watertown, a daughter of Roy and Mary LaMora. She attended schools in Watertown.
She married George "Buckshot" Serviss on Sept. 30, 1952, in the St. James Catholic Church, Gouverneur. The couple resided in Richville and Gouverneur most of their married life. They moved in 1978 to Calabash, N.C. after Mr. Serviss retired from St. Joe Minerals.
Mrs. Serviss worked many years in the Gouverneur area as a waitress and cook for several establishments including Canales, The Elks Lodge, and the Gouverneur Country Club. She also dealt in antiques and held ceramic classes for many years. She made and sold porcelain dolls in Calabash.
Mrs. Serviss was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
She enjoyed collecting dolls, trout fishing, and raising her pet parrot "Buck."
