Old Settler Passes Away On Tuesday
Death Comes to James Henry Jewison Following Stroke
James Henry Jewison was born March 9th, 1853, at Mapleton, Waukesha County, Wisconsin, and died at his farm home near Janesville, January 17th, 1928. He moved to Iron Cliff, Mich., in 1867 and in 1868 to Okaman in this county. Excepting for one year spent in the western part of the country he lived in Minnesota continuously from 1868 until the time of his death.
In 1877, he was married to Miss Molly Corcoran and to this union eight children were born, all of whom survive excepting Lulu, who died in early girlhood. The surviving children are Mrs. Alice Mulcahey, Mrs. Jennie Cahill, John, Frank, Christ.., Harry of Columbus, Mont., and Burt of Minneapolis, all of whom were here for the funeral. In 1913, he married Meta Rinder, who survives him. He is survived also by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Anna Eustice of Janesville, Mrs. Nell Taklmadge of Hibbing and Christopher Jewison of Janesville. Twenty-eight grand children survive the deceased also.
About two years ago he suffered a stroke which confined him to his bed for some time. He appeared to be enjoying fairly good health until a week ago when he seriously ill after two stokes which caused his death.
The funeral was held at two o'clock Thursday afternoon from the house with Rev. Brandon in charge of the services and the remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery at Janesville.
In the passing of James H. Jewison, the community loses one of its oldest settlers and another void is left in the ranks of those who were pioneers in this community.
The Argus joins with the many friends of the family in extending to them heartfelt sympathy in their bereavement.
