Elmer Massengale, 70, of the Smokey Junction community, passed away Saturday morning, December 29, 1984, at the Scott County Hospital following a lingering illness. Mr. Massengale was the son of the late Franklin Massengale and the late Mary Jane Bunch Massengale, and was also preceded in death by one infant daughter; three sisters: Louella Bunch, Vienna Carroll, and Dora Carroll; and two brothers: Esau and McKinley Massengale. A United States Army Veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Smokey Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Climmie Lowe Massengale of the Smokey Junction community; eight daughters: Dorothy Kimble of New Castle, Okla., Vaunda Estep of Lewistown, O., Wanda Newport of Winona, Maudie Morris of Lakeview, O., Flonnie Daugherty of Parker City, Ind., Linda Day and Lorene Day of Norma, and Beatrice Lowe of Redkey, Ind.; three sons: Donald Massengale of Helenwood, Dillard Massengale of Smokey Junction, and Rev. Ronald Massengale of Robbins; five sisters: Elizabeth Cross, Sylvania Harness, Celia Cross, Losia Hembree, and Linda Lowe, all of the Smokey community; two brothers: Laford Massengale of Pioneer, and Levi Massengale of Petros; 43 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Smokey Creek Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Monday, December 31, with Rev. William E. Pace and Rev. J. C. Pace officiating. The Lloyd Family sang. Burial followed in the Smokey Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were: James E. Banks, Wendele G. Estep, Don A. Massengale, Tommy A. Morris, Harold R. Daugherty, Jr., Ronnie L.
