Funeral services for John Randolph Earp, Fruita, who died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Selma B. Snavely, in the Hunter district will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Martin chapel in Grand Junction. The Jehovah's Witnesses will be in charge of the rites, and burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at Fruita. Mr. Earp was born Oct. 27, 1854, near Indianola, [Warren county] Iowa, and he spent the early part of his life at Galesburg, Iowa. He moved to Wheeler, Neb., in 1883, and he married Mary Elizabeth Apple of Galesburg at Spalding, [Greeley county] Neb., March 3, 1886. Mr. and Mrs. Earp went in 1900 to Guthrie, Iowa, and in 1907 to Greenriver, Utah. They came to the lower valley in 1913. Mrs. Earp died 16 years ago. Mr. Earp was engaged in farming most of his life until health failed him 18 years ago and he had to retire from active work. He became a Jehovah's Witness in 1895 and was a faithful member of that denomination. For the past four years, Mr. Earp had lived at the home of his daughter. Survivors besides Mrs. Snavely are one son, E. Victor Earp, Morenci, Ariz., four grand children; and seven great grandchildren (The Daily Sentinel, Grand Junction, Colorado. 19 Feb 1943 p. 2).
