Obituary: MRS. SELMA SNAVELY DIES UNEXPECTEDLY: FUNERAL IS SATURDAY - Mrs. Selma Bertha Snavely, 68, of 843 Pitkin Ave., died suddenly Tuesday [26 Feb 1957] at 12:30 p.m. at her home. Her husband survives. Selma Bertha Earp was born Sept. 21, 1888, at Bartlett in Wheeler County, Neb., where she lived until 1900. The daughter of J.R. Earp and Mary Elizabeth Apple, she lived seven years in Iowa, and then another seven in Utah. On Jun 7, 1911, she married to Vernon Snavely at Greenwater, Utah, and they lived in Utah for the next few years. Mr. Snavely was a farmer, now retired. They moved from Utah to Mesa county about 1918, and have lived in the county for 39 years. Settling first in Mack, they moved to the Hunter district in 1943, and in 1947 came to Grand Junction. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. They had no children, and a brother, E.V. Earp, 1132 Cannell Ave., is the only additional survivor. Funeral services are to be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Martin's Chapel, with Jehovah Witnesses conducting the service. Burial is to be in Elmwood Cemetery at Fruita. Pallbearers will be Russell Brandon, Sid Nichols Jr., Ed Baysinger, Arnold Nieldsen, Glen Labbe and Hugh Dugan [Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, Feb. 27, 1957, p. 13].
