Elmer Victor Earp, 76, a retired copper mining engineer, died Friday night in St. Mary's Hospital. He had been in poor health for about two years. Mr. Earp resided at 1132 Cannel St. He was born Aug. 20, 1890 in Nebraska, and lived there until he was nine years old. He moved from Nebraska to Guthrie Center, Iowa, and then to Utah where he lived for several years, and worked there as a call boy for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. He worked for the Uinta Railroad at Grand Junction from 1912 to 1939, and when it was abandoned he went to Arizona, where he worked for the Phelps Dodge Copper Co. until his retirement in 1955. He was married to Ila F. Switzer at Safford, Ariz., on March 3, 1941. She survives. Mr. Earp was a life member of Grand Junction Lodge No. 575, Benevolent and Paternal Order of Elks, and a life member of the Locomotive Firemen and Engineers. Survivors in addition to his wife are one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Margaret) Colby of Los Angeles, Calif., two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Martin's Chapel, with the Elks Lodge conducting the service. Burial will be in Orchard Mesa Cemetery (Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, 13 Aug 1967, p. 8).
