Mrs. I. N. Poston
Mrs. Elizabeth Poston, widow of the late I. N. Poston, who deceased June 27, 1907, died at her home two and one half miles southeast of Villisca, Tuesday afternoon of this week at ten minutes past two o'clock at the advanced age of 75 years and ten months. Her last sickness was pneumonia following a severe attack of the grip.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at one o'clock conducted by Rev. J. K. Driver, pastor of the Presbyterian church, and interment will be in the Villisca cemetery by the side of the deceased husband.
Mrs. Poston was one of the earliest settlers in this part of the state of Iowa. She was born in Morgan county, Indiana, May 17, 1832. At the age of about twelve years she moved with her parents to Pulaski county, Missouri and four years later removed to Linn county, the same state. She was married in 1849 to Mr. I. N. Poston and directly afterwards came to Adams county, Iowa, and this vicinity has been her home ever since. Her father was Judge Samuel Baker, a prominent citizen and farmer of this locality who died thirty-two years ago.
Mrs. Poston was the mother of ten children, seven of whom are yet living. Their names are:Mrs. Mary Mitchell, the eldest, Mrs. Martha Buckley of Aurora, Kansas; and Mrs. Fanny Sampson, R. S., J. T. and A. W. Poston of this place and J. B. Poston of Perth, Oklahoma. Mr. and Mrs. Poston were the third settlers in Adams county, both having made the journey from Southern Missouri by ox team, the trip requiring five weeks for completion. The first election in Adams county was held at the Poston home and Mrs. Poston cooked the dinner for the voters. Mr. Poston was at that time chosen to fill the office of county clerk. It was in 1854 that they moved to the home two and one half miles southeast of Villisca.
