Mrs. Mary Mitchell, pioneer resident of Montgomery county, died Thursday night of last week in the home of her brother, A. W. Poston, and wife southeast of Villisca where she had resided since the death of her parents. Her death was the result of a fall about seven weeks ago.
Mary Emily Poston was born in Page county, Iowa, on November 1, 1851, and died at the age of 78 years. She resided in this county seventy-six years.
She was the oldest child of I. N. and Elizabeth Poston and moved with her parents to Adams county, Iowa, in 1852 where she lived two years, coming to Montgomery county which was her home from then until her death. She was married on November 19, 1873, to Hulan Mitchell who preceded her in death fifty-one years.
To them were born four children, all of whom are living and were with their mother during her last illness. They are Mrs. Osmond of Creston, Iowa, J. W. Mitchell of Paola, Kansas, Maude, who lived with her mother, and Mrs. Louisa Selley of Villisca.
