Rita Hoover, 91, Vale Wood Road, Loretto, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday surrounded by her loving family at home.
She was the daughter of the late Engelbert and Alma (Benden) Farabaugh.
Surviving are 12 children: Bill (Jane) and Russ (Cheree), both of Erie, Becky Osmolinski (Ron) of Altoona, Bob, Jake, Ron (Mary) and Jeannie Phister (Tim), all of Loretto, Joann Edwards (Denny) of Clarion, Ken (Margo) and Lois Stoltz (Tim), both of Cresson, Alma Grossman (Jerry) of Glen Burnie, Md., and Terry Dean (David) of Salisbury, Md.; 48 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Also surviving are three siblings: Kathleen Smith and Art (Mary), both of Loretto, and Floyd (Millie) of Atlanta, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; three children: Edward, Carol Young and Myrna Hoover; a great-grandson, Jason Lemme; a daughter-in-law, JoAnne (Scanlan) Hoover; and eight siblings: Catherine Farabaugh, Mary Francis Jones, Delrose Shuss, Wayne, Clyde and Flo Farabaugh, and Russell and Helen Biller.
Rita was awarded the Prince Gallitzin Cross in 1998. She was a leader in the Disciples of Jesus Prayer Group, Cresson, and a member of the Legion of Mary, Altar and Rosary Society and the Basilica of St. Michael, Loretto.
Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the Basilica of St. Michael, Loretto, the Rev. Bob Hilz, T.O.R., as celebrant. Committal will be in St. Michael Cemetery.
