SMITH – Kathleen A., 91, Loretto, returned to the loving arms of Jesus on January 30, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born March 10, 1925 in Loretto, daughter of the late Englebert J. and Alma (Benden) Farabaugh. Preceded in death by husband, Al on August 24, 2007, grandsons: Dustin Oswalt on November 2, 2007 and Billy Black on November 5, 2014. Brothers: Wayne, Clyde, Arthur, Russell, and Floyd. Sisters: M. Frances Jones, Delrose Shuss, Rita Hoover, Helen Biller, Flo Ella Farabrugh and Catherine Farabaugh. Survived by children: Ann Oswalt (Dan) of Punta Gorda, FL, Richard (Linda Krug) of Loretto, Carl (Karen Sharpe) of Plano, TX, David (Dawn Biter) of Loretto, and Joyce Black of Lilly. 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Last surviving member of her immediate family. Also survived by sisters in law: Mary (Byrne) Farabaugh of Loretto and Millie (Weber) Farabaugh of Lawrenceville, GA and numerous nieces and nephews. Kathleen enjoyed playing cards, gardening, making quilts and being known by everyone for her cinnamon rolls and wedding cakes. She worked during WW ll in a plant in Cleveland, OH as a 'Rosie Riveter'on B29 Bombers, she later worked in catering/food service at St. Francis College, Loretto, Cresson State School, and Hollidaysburg Veterans Home and retired in 1989. Kathleen served on the Red Cross Blood Drives and donated over 15‰ gallons. Member of the Loretto Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, last surviving Charter Member (71 Years) of Loretto American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Altar Rosary Society and Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church where funeral Mass will be concelebrated Saturday at 11:00 AM, Very Reverend John D. Byrnes and Rev. Malachi Van Tassel, Celebrants. Committal, Church Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM Friday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, PA 16613, where a Vigil Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made to St. Michael School. Loretto, PA in Kathleen’s memory.
