She was born in Loretto RD, daughter of the late Engelbert and Alma (Benden) Farabaugh.
Surviving are five children: Alma Scanlan (Glenn) of Gallitzin RD, Tony (Judy Krug) of Loretto RD, Marie Battles (Peter) of Bridgeport, W.Va., Joe (Lisa Williams) of Sankertown and Duanne of Loretto; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four siblings: Rita Hoover, Kathleen Smith and Arthur (Mary Byrne), all of Loretto RD, and Floyd (Mildred Weber) of Atlanta; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony, on Sept. 19, 2009; and seven siblings: Catherine Farabaugh, Mary Francis Jones, Della Rose Shuss, Wayne, Clyde, Flo Farabaugh and Russell.
Helen worked at St. Francis College for a number of years and retired from the Cambria County Child Development Center after eight years of service. She was a member of the Basilica of St. Michael, Loretto, and the Loretto Volunteer Fire Company and a charter member for 64 years of the Loretto American Legion Auxiliary. She served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts in Loretto and served on the Red Cross Bloodmobile.
Helen enjoyed her grandchildren and flower garden.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2011, at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at the Basilica of St. Michael, Loretto, Monsignor Timothy Swope as celebrant. Committal will be in St. Michael Cemetery.
