Charles Steele Bellamy
GATE CITY, Va. - Charles Steele Bellamy , 73, Route 3, passed away ( Jan. 8, 2000 ) at his residence after a long illness.
Born February 4, 1926 , he was a lifelong resident of Scott County . He served his country during World War II as an Anti-Tank Gunner in the 63rd. Infantry Division, European Theater of Operations. He retired from Scott County Welfare Department in 1978 after 20 years of service. He was a member of Chalybeate Springs United Methodist Church .
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Lee and Martha Kate Snapp Bellamy ; brother, Donnie Lee Bellamy.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Sandidge Bellamy , Gate City; son and daughter-in-law, Garry D. and Carol Bellamy , Kingsport; daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Ryl and (Judy) Bellamy , Church Hill; grandchildren, Benjy and Robin Bellamy , Gate City, Danny and Cindy Bellamy , Knoxville, Tenn., Martha and Gary Willis, Grand Forks, N.D., Clint and Leslie Bellamy , Church Hill, Joy Bellamy , Church Hill; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Rebecckah Willis, Grand Forks, N.D.; sisters, Mrs. Ed (Edna) Houseright, Mrs. Paul (Hazel) Wininger, Mrs. Tyler (Dorothy) Davidson, all of Gate City; brothers, Edley Hugh Bellamy , Gate City, Grady Alton Bellamy , Kingsport.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Scott County Funeral Home, and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. W. R. Grimm, the Rev. Bruce Hullette and Minister Benjy Bellamy officiating. Music will be by the Salley Family.
Burial will follow in Holston View Cemetery . Military graveside rites by the American Legion Hammond Post No. 3 of Kingsport .
Pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons.
