GATE CITY, Va. — Edley Hugh Bellamy, 86, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (July 15, 2008) while working in his yard. God saw that he was very tired and that he needed rest, so he sent the angels for him as he needed the very best. When the angels got him home, they went through the pearly gates. All the angels stood and started singing, and Edley took his place as God said, "Welcome home my good and faithful servant."Edley was born in Scott County on Oct. 23, 1921 and worked at Tennessee Eastman for 43 years in the A.Y. and Spinning Department as foreman. He was a member of Gate City I.O.O.F. Lodge #170. Edley was a Christian from an early age and was a member of Gate City United Methodist Church and Griggs Bible Class. Daddy loved gardening and taking his little dog for rides and walks. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Elma Palmer Bellamy; his parents, Martha Kate Snapp Bellamy and Claude Lee Bellamy; brothers, Charles S. Bellamy and Donnie Lee Bellamy. Surviving are his daughter, Nancy B. Bacon, Duffield, Va.; granddaughter and grandson, Tarita and Bucky Carter of Kingsport; his "bestest buddy, Doodle"; three sisters, Edna Houseright, Hazel Wininger and Dorothy Davidson, all of Gate City; brother, Grady A. Bellamy, Kingsport; several nieces, nephews and many friends.Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Steve Brown officiating. Music will be provided by Gate City United Methodist Church Choir. Services by Gate City I.O.O.F. Lodge #170 will be at 12:45 prior to the funeral service. Graveside services will follow at Holston View Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Dana Housewright, Daryl Housewright, Dwight Housewright, Gary Bellamy, Michael Bellamy, David Wininger, Eddie Wininger, and Jerry Taylor.
