Mary Anna Bedlan was born March 16, 1901, to Adolph and Marie (Cvach) Dlouhy on a farm near Tobias. She passed away at the Fillmore County Hospital, Geneva, August 13, 1980, at the age of 79 years.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church near Milligan. She attended school at Tobias.

On April 26, 1917, she was united in marriage to Frank Bedlan of Tobias. To this union seven children were born: four girls and three boys. Twin girls and a boy died in infancy.

They spent their life farming until they retired in the fall of 1966, when they moved to Carleton. On April 26, 1967, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

In the fall of 1976, after failing health, she and her husband moved to Memory Manor at Exeter. After a short stay there, they moved to Heritage nursing home at Geneva. It was here that they had the privilege of celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

She is survived by two sons, Frank *Bud* and wife, Donna of Belvidere, John and wife, Kay of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two daughters, Mrs. Lowell (Irene) West and husband of Belvidere, Mrs. Earl (Ruby) Peppie of Geneva; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ralph Synder of Emerald; two brothers, Joe and Albert of Tobias; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; parents; three brothers, Blazej, Frank and Adolph and three sisters, Mrs. Frank (Bessie) Kretena, Mrs. Joe (Anna) Herynk, Mrs. William (Bohuslava) Staritz.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and American Legion Auxiliary of Carleton.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed her garden, flowers and friends.

Funeral services were Saturday, August 16, at Carleton Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Seem officiating. Mrs. DeRoy Miller was organist and the Zion Lutheran choir sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden."

Pallbearers were grandsons, Johnny Bedlan, Jim Harrold, Vaughn Hinrichs, Matt Swantek, Kenneth Mach, Gary Peppie and Joe Person.

Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery at Milligan.
