Vernon Alford Buried Tuesday

Vernon Komack Alford, 17, who was a resident of Ludlow, passed away at his home April 16, 1951, after a lingering illness of about a year.

Komack was a senior of the Ludlow High School, and he would have finished this term of school. He was very, very popular among his classmates and friends, and everyone loved him very much. He was a member of the New Home Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held from the Bethlehem Baptist Church April 17, 1951, at 2:30 p. m., with the Rev. Taylor Wallace, Baptist, of Forkville, officiating, and final interment was in the Hodge Hill cemetery.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Alford of Ludlow, five sisters, Mrs. Leon Fitzhugh, Ludlow, Mrs. Osborne Harrison, Lake, Mrs. Clifton Shaw, Forest, Mrs. Lane McCurdy, Jr., Ludlow, Miss Mecia Gay Alford, Ludlow, three brothers, Bernard Alford, Jackson, S.J. Alford, Ludlow, and Arthur Neal Alford, Ludlow.

The active pallbearers were: Bobby Fairchilds, Jimmy Fairchilds, Frank Shaw, Fred Sumerall, Jack Armstrong, and Gilford Allison.

Honorary pallbearers were Barthel Waggoner, John Wesley Patrick, Charles Latham, Vardin Shumaker, Dathan Sumerall, and Allie McCurdy.
