Bernard W. Alford, 74, a retired G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Jackson, Miss., employee, died of a heart attack Monday in Dunwoody Medical Center.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, Miss., with burial in Floral Hills Cemetery. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today.

He had lived in Georgia for three months, having moved from Pearl. He retired from the VA with 34 years of service.

Survivors include: wife, Mable; son, Ray Stuart of Dunwoody; brothers, S.J. Alford and Arthur Alford , both of Morton; sister Annie Bell Fitzhugh of Ludlow, Miss., Yvonne Harrison of Lake, Miss., Nellie Shaw of Forest, Miss., Irene Martin of Pearl and Mecia Gay Crapps of Ludlow; and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
