Donald Wilke Greear was the second of six sons born to Alonzo Pierce (Lon) and Signa (Osterman) Greear. Don was born in South Dakota and the family moved to Illinois in 1922. He attended local grade schools and Edwardsville High School.

He served in the Army Air Corp and attended Radio School. He became involved in the aerospace program and became an engineer. He worked in the white Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico and later moved his family to California where he worked for Lockheed.

He passed away on March 17, 2003. His obituary states: "Donald Wilke Greear, 85, native of South Dakota, passed peacefully and gently in his home in Gustine on Monday. He was a WW2 veteran and accomplished aerospace engineer. He is survived by his 4 brothers, Melvin, Leo, Kenny and Carl, daughters Carole Wolfsen of Gustine, JoAnn McDonald of Minnesota and Margaret Wayman of Washington. He was preceded in death by his spouse Ruth Margaret and 2 sons, Donald and William. The love and treasurers of his life was his family including 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Private family memorial held in Gustine. A celebration of his life and interment with full military honors will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego in summer of 2003. The entire family wishes to express their gratitude to Michelle Wayman (granddaughter) and the complete staff of Hinds Hospice of Merced for their extraordinary care and compassion. Remembrances may be made to Hinds Hospice, 410 West Main Street, Suite A, Merced, CA 95341-0763."
