Ruth Barnes Boykin Smith, beloved daughter of the late Clyde and General Barnes was born on July 25, 1916 in Wilson, North Carolina. On Monday, November 27, 2000 at The Caton Manor Nursing Home at 4:45 a.m. after a length illness God in His Infinite Wisdom, quietly called Ruth into His Heavenly Home.(Two daughters preceded Mrs. Ruth in death~ Baby Edna Ruth Boykin and Mrs. Cora Mae Boykin Cook and four siblings: Mrs. Maggie Baines, Mrs. Irene Floyd, Mr. John Dallas and Mrs. Lucy Allen).
Ruth attended The Calvin Level School in Lucama, North Carolina. After completing her education, Ruth united in Holy Matrimony to the late William Howard Taft Boykin and their union was blessed with five children. In 1943 they relocated their family to Baltimore, Maryland residing in The Summer-Set Housing Project in Baltimore City. Ruth was extremely talented at cooking, sewing and contributed those talents threw out the neighborhood. In 1952 they purchased their first home located at 3221 Brighton Street West Baltimore and Ruth continue to extend her talents and concern to this community. After thirty nine years of marriage Ruth and the late William Howard Taft Boykin decided to divorce. Ruth later met and married Archie Smith.
Mrs. Ruth, as she was called by her friends, had a sense of humor and loved people. Mrs. Ruth would share whatever she had when her family or friends called on her for help. She always responded with assistance for those in need of food, clothing, furniture, housing and money. Mrs. Ruth really enjoyed blessing her family and friends. Mrs. Ruth loved to put a smile on people faces, because she had a warm and beautiful smile on her at all times.
Mrs. Ruth enjoyed socializing with family and friends at her home. Mrs. always had music playing, food and refreshments for them to enjoy, especially on the Holidays. Mrs. Ruth prize possession was her home and she truly believed in maintaining, sustaining its up-keep and appearance for her family and friends, until her health begin to fail her.
Mrs. Ruth leaves to cherish her fond memories: her devoted husband~ Mr. Archie Smith; three children~ Mr. Edward L. Boykin and Mrs. Helen Bazemore all of Baltimore, MD., Mr. James C. Boykin of Brookly, New York; twelve~ grandchildren, twenty-three~ great-grandchildren; three~ great-great-grandchildren; four brothers~ Mr. Darthur Barnes, Reverend Wiley Barnes both of Baltimore, MD.; Mr. Bobbie Barnes of Richmond, VA. and Mr. Billy Barnes of Brooklyn, NY.; three sisters~ Mrs. Odessa Boykin and Mrs. Mildred Miller both of Brooklyn, NY. and Ms. Linda Barnes of Richmond, VA.; two brothers-in-law~ Mr. William J. Boykin and Mr. Leroy Miller both of Brooklyn, NY.; two sisters-in-law~ Mrs. Rosa Barnes of Baltimore, MD. and Mrs. Helen Barnes of Richmond, VA. and a host of nephews, great-nephews, nieces, great-nieces and other relatives and friends.
