Bishop Wiley H. Barnes Sr., was the beloved son of Mrs. Clyde Dupree Barnes and Mr. General Barnes (both Decease) was born in Wilson, North Carolina, on May 1, 1926. On Monday, March 30, 2015 at 10:00 AM., God Quietly Called His faithful servant Bishop Wiley H. Barnes Sr. from labor to reward.
Wiley attended schools in Wilson, but left at the age of 13 to make a better life for himself. Wiley enlisted in The United States Air Force at the age of nineteen, serving two years. Wiley had already joined God Army's when he returned to Wilson but not yet answered the call to the ministry. Wiley met and married Ms. Rosa Blow in 1947. Wiley and Mrs. Rosa Blow Barnes relocated to Baltimore, Maryland and Wiley was an employee of Bethlehem Steel for over 30 years. Wiley and Rosa made a loving household for their four children and over eight young ladies at various times that not only became part of their home, but part of their family. In 1972, Wiley and Rosa received a citation from the City of Baltimore for their devoted work with children.
In 1946, Wiley became a part of Mount Calvary Holy Church of America. Wiley was the Founding Pastor of Mt. Calvary Holy Church #1. In May of 1958, Wiley was Ordained to the office of Elder at the Annual Convocation in Richmond Virginia. In order to continue his studies in Divinity, Wiley first completed a GED Program offered through Bethlehem Steel in 1968 and then went on to receive a Bachelor of Theology from a Bible College in 1984. Wiley Barnes separated from Mt. Calvary later in 1984 and led a flock to start St. Mark Pentecostal Holy Church, first located at 4223 York Road Baltimore, Maryland and later relocated to Harford Road in Baltimore City.~~~~ An excerpt from Bishop Wiley H. Barnes letter to his dear colleagues at Mount Calvary explaining why he was stepping out on faith to start a new work, summarizes his calling to God best. "I have to do what the Lord told me to do a long time ago, but I didn't have the nerve to do it then and I can't help myself now, I must do the work of Him that sent me while it is Day, for the Night cometh, and no man can work. I remain Yours in Christ."
All who crossed Bishop Wiley H. Barnes' path were blessed, including the hundreds of people that received food from his Wednesday Food Pantry. Bishop Barnes operated this Ministry from his front porch of The Alameda, even after he moved from the Community.
