Death of Mrs. Bartels
Mrs. Fred Bartels, a resident of this city for the past twenty-five years, passed away at the General hospital about 5 o'clock Wednesday evening, death resulting from leakage of the heart. For the past three or four months she had been ailing and about two weeks ago sustained a severe hemorrhage of the nose. Despite efforts of attending physicians the hemorrhages continued, and about three days ago she was removed to the hospital, where death occurred.
Mrs. Bartels, nee Mary Fredericka Caroline Tetau [sic], was born in Germany on September 13, 1864. She came to this country with her parents when only 1 year of age, the family locating at Oshkosh, Wis. In 1873 they removed to Saline county, Nebraska. In 1878 she was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Hampton, Neb. On September 8, 1881, she was united in marriage to Mr. Fred Bartels. To this union there were born ten children, eight of whom, together with the bereaved husband, are left to mourn her loss. They are: W.H. Bartels of Covington, Okla.; Fred of Tobias, Neb.; John, Otto, Henry, Mrs. Herman Koch, Mrs. Chris Ericksen and Miss Sophia Bartels, all of this city. The father and three sisters of the deceased, residing at Amherst, Colo., also survive her.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home, 417 West Thirteenth street, and at 2 o'clock from the German Lutheran church on East Second street, Rev. Wilkins officiating. Interment will be made in the Grand Island cemetery. The sympathy of the many friends of the family is extended them in their sad loss.
