Harry Renwick McChesney Obituary

Harry R. McChesney, 99, former Winfield and Cambridge, Kansas resident, passed away Monday evening, August 21, 1995 at Grouse Valley Manor in Dexter, Kansas.

Born March 14, 1896 on a farm near Andrew, Iowa, he was one of 13 children born to Andrew Jenkins and Olive Ann Briscoe McChesney. He received his earliest education in Iowa schools, moving as a child to Missouri with his parents. A graduate of Amoret, Missouri High School, he began work as a young man in the oilfield.

A veteran of W.W.I. he served with the U.S. Army as an infantryman in France and the European Theatre.

On November 28, 1923, he was united in marriage to Mae M. Taylor at her parent's home in Kaw City, Oklahoma, where the couple made their first home.

The McChesney moved to Cambridge, Kansas in 1929, where he began employment for Cities Service in 1962, following 33 years service. They moved to Winfield in 1975, and he has resided at Grouse Valley Manor in Dexter since September, 1992.

A member of the Cambridge Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an elder, he was also affiliated with the Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star at Burden. His interests included, Wildflowers, Mechanics, Baseball and Basketball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Vaughn in 1933; and by 5 brothers and 7 sisters.
