Joseph Stephen was the first born child and son of Stephen Walter & Anna Eaton (Cates) Trumbull of Rumford, Maine. Joseph was born in Rumford, Maine; his parents removed to Bridgton when Joseph was only 9 months old. His remaining nine younger sibling were born in Bridgton, Maine. His mother Anna Eaton Cates (Mayflower descendant) was born in Harrison, Maine.

Joseph married first Nellie (Alley) Seavey (widow of Clarence Seavey of Bridgton) in 1902. No children came of this marriage, Nellie died only 16 months after their marriage. Nellie had six children from her first marriage with Clarence. Nellie died of TB and is buried beside her first husband Clarence at High Street Cemetery in Bridgton, Maine.

Joseph married second Lena Belle Cox of Mechanic Falls, Maine. All of Joseph children were born from this union (marriage).

They had two sons named Walter Stephen, Joseph Malcolm and four daughters Violet Elnora, Charlotte Ella, Constance Lena and Marie Blanche.

Joseph parents (Stephen & Anna) and two siblings (Walter & Lena; both died as infants) are buried at High Street Cemetery in Bridgton, Maine.

Joseph died in 1947 of complications due to Diabetes. Joseph loss his legs during a 10 year period prior to his death.

Joseph was a skilled Carpenter and Housewright.

Joseph was a life-long firefighter for the town of Bridgton. A firefighter fire is placed by his stone.
