Mary McLaughlin was from the little village of Derrywode which is part of Templetogher, near Williamstown, County Galway. Her parents were: Ellen Tobin and Michael McLaughlin.

It was said that Patrick Conneally knew Mary McLaughlin back in Ireland, because they were from adjoining areas in Templetogher. Patrick and Mary were wed in Staten Island, New York, in St. Mary's Church in the Rosebank section on Sunday, March 20, 1859.

Patrick was a farmer/dairyman who settled in Norfolk, Connecticut, at least by 1863, the first
documented reference to Patrick and Mary in the town records. That is when their second child, Catherine M. Conneally was born. It happened to be on the exact day of the historic Civil War Battle of Gettysburg, July 1st.

Patrick and Mary were in Immaculate Conception Parish in Norfolk. This was a rural area, thus it was a mission church run by the Franciscans from St. Joseph's monastery in Winsted, Connecticut, about 9 miles away. The priest would visit Norfolk along with various other outlying parishes. The church did not keep records at that point, so we do not have Catherine's baptismal info.

In the late 1880's Patrick and son John went out to Wallace, Nebraska to be with Patrick's brother Luke and family. Patrick died there in 1903.

Mary McLaughlin Conneally moved from Norfolk, CT, about 30 miles north and settled in Pittsfield, Massachusetts with her daughters Kate and Mary and 2 sons. Mary McLaughlin Conneally died there in 1890.
