David was the third son of Christian Olaus "Nils" Olson and Anna Gurine Thorson Olson.
His brothers were Carl Olaves (died as baby) , a second Carl Olaves called "Charles" A little sister Clara died as a toddler.
His father was lost at sea on Lake Michegan in 1874 when David was a boy.
His mother then married for the second time Nels Hanson, and had four more sons; his half brothers Clarence, Christian, Oliver and Soren Hanson.
He married Euphemia Roberts and they had several children, Clara and Harold.
(Euphamia's sister, Mary Josephine, married Clarence, his half brother)
He was a hardware merchant in Clifton and later Tomah, Wisconsin.
According to family report, some time after Euphemia's death, he married Nettie (Olson) .
