Christian was the son of Nels Hanson and Anna Gurene Thorson (Olson) Hanson.
He was baptised Kristian Ingemond Hanson . He usually used the middle initial "M" , for the shortened Emanuel - Manuel.

He married first Elizabeth Schmitz. They had no children and she died quite young.
Secondly he married Mary Anna Quist on December 20, 1911 in Sparta, Wisconsin.
He and Anna Mary had eight children , Evelyn, Eleanor, Dorothy, Geneva , Alvin, Harold, Melvin and Leroy.
He farmed in the Clifton, Wisconsin area.

Mary Anna preceeded him in death, passing away on February 24, 1967. He was survived by his sons Alvin, Harold, Melvin and Leroy. Also survived by his daughters: Evelyn (Mrs George Elsing) of Camp Douglas, Eleanor (Mrs Lester Andres) of Dundee, Illinois, Dorothy (Mrs Morris Elsing) of Kendall and Geneva (Mrs Clifford Martinson) of Camp Douglas.

He died after a long illness, and the funeral service was held at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church of Camp Douglas.
