"Charles", was the son of Christian "Carlos"Olaus (Nils) Olson who had been born in Norway, brought his family to Illinois in 1865 and in 1874 died at sea in Lake Michegan. His mother was Anna Guerene Thorson.
He was the second born son. The first son was named Carl Olaves Olson but died as an infant of less than a year. Charles was born two years later. Norwegian families often named a second child the same name as an earlier child who had died. He had another brother , David Martinius Olson, and a younger sister, Clara Annette who died as a 2 year old toddler.

"Charles", as he was always called,, married Tilda Sorenson in 1894 in her father's house in Clifton, Wi. Witnesses were David Olson, Inga Olson and Gunder Sorenson, The Pastor was M.L. Ruh, Lutheran Pastor.

Their children : Clarence Gunvaldt Olson Sr, Carlo Martin Olson, Myrtle C Olson, Oscar N , Arthur Samuel Olson, Otto Diedrich Olson, and Alice Jean Olson. According to both census and Alice Jean's birth certificate there were 7 children. Oscar N was on the 1905 census but no mention has been found of him, other than that. She was born in 1909 before the 1910 census.
They lived in Hustler Wisconsin where he farmed for a living.
