Clarence was a son of Nels Hanson and Anna Gurine Thorson.
He had half siblings from her first marriage to Christian Olson. They were Carl Olaves "Charles" , David and Clara. His full brothers were Christ, Oliver and Soren Hanson.

He married February 2, 1898 to Mary Josephine Robertson.
(She was the daughter of John Robertson and Margaret MacMillin Robinson. Her sister Euphamia married Clarence's half brother David Olson)

He and Josephine had an infant son that died. He is buried with his grandparents, in the Robertson Plot, in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah, Wisconsin.

Clarence's obituary states he died of diabetes.
